Situated in the eastern area of Iowa along the Wapsipinicon River with an abundance of oak, silver maple, and willow is Independence. The town snugs up on either side of the river between River Ridge Golf Club and Three Elms Golf course. Cedar Rapids is to the south.
The community has an airport, a theatre, two golf courses, a library, post office, and its very own Independence Motor Speedway, and much more. The Community School District includes the towns of Brandon and Rowley. St. John Catholic School serves the community as a private school.
One of the most beautiful and natural resources in eastern Iowa is the Wapsipinicon River that runs through Independence on its way south into the Mississippi River. It is the longest continuous stretch of natural scenic body of water in the area, possibly in the entire state. Outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy camping, hiking, fishing, and canoeing on The Wapsipinicon River Trail.
Independence, with approximately 6,000 people, is a prime real estate market for buyers and sellers as the housing market is very robust. Independence offers a nice mix of graceful old homes, single family homes, apartments and land. Independence is 26mi east of Waterloo/Cedar Falls, 39mi north of Cedar Rapids. Access to shopping, and entertainment in these bigger cities is just - at the most - an hour away. Independence’s rich history and values are woven into the present and the future of the community.
